Fill the Mayflower
Food/funds drive for local military families in need for the holidays
The recent government shutdown put our military families in crises circumstances so Homefront Heroes used some "Donalds Funds" funds to ensure these folks could eat before the Mayflower docked. Volunteers at Buckley - military spouses themselves - are coupon cutting queens and used our funds and their coupons to fill the larder with emergency food.
But, now we must Fill the Mayflower to make certain these families have a proper Thanksgiving and good food for their families. Food donors can also "buy a little extra" to donate at the Walmart at Colfax and Wadsworth on Saturday, November 9th from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Volunteers from Grace Fellowship of Lakewood - faithful Homefront Heroes supporters - will gather the bounty of donations and bring them to the "mothership" (the Mayflower).
Homefront Heroes, non-profit military/veteran support organization, will once again brave the chilly elements to attempt to “Fill the Mayflower” with non-perishable food, and gather donated funds for local military families in need this holiday season. This year’s Fill the Mayflower drive coincides with Veterans Day weekend, November 8-11, 2013 (Friday-Monday).
The Mayflower trailer will be donated again, and Arvada’s Texas Roadhouse will serve as the Mayflower port of call – 5515 Vance (approximately 55th and Wadsworth Bypass). The “ship” will dock and be open to receive donations during these hours on these days:
Friday, November 8 – noon - 5 p.m.
Saturday, November 9 – 9 a.m. – 6- p.m.
Sunday, November 10 – noon – 5 p.m.
Monday, Veterans Day, November 11 - 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Texas Roadhouse will provide free lunches for Veterans on Monday, November 11th.
All food and funds benefit lower ranking military members and their families attached to Buckley AFB. The First Sgts Council at Buckley nominates recipients and distributes the gathered bounty. Funds go toward purchasing gift cards to be used by the recipients to purchase perishable items (turkeys, hams).
Appropriate non-perishable food donations are canned and dried food items (not expired) – especially items that are holiday meal specific. No fresh veggies, please, or bread items.
